Most recently, I had the honour of officiating a Casual Ceremony at the Glen Erin Inn in Mississauga.. Although casual, what made this very special to everyone attending was that the wedding ceremony had an emphasis on the couple's partnership. In fact, the Wedding Date itself was the anniversary of the couple’s first date 20 Years ago.
They told their love story; the couple met in High School Art Class sitting beside one another. They had dated and lived in Mississauga for the next 18 years then moved to New Brunswick for the next 2 years.
They came back to Mississauga for their Wedding to be with their Family and close friends. Most telling of their commitment to each other was their wish to have a reading of Wilfred Peterson’s Poem, the Art of Marriage, which closes with the following two lines:
“It is not only marrying the right person,
It is being the right partner.”
They are an awesome couple and are the right fit for one another; “One is excitable and the other is steady as a rock.”
This meaningful ceremony was followed by a lovely dinner that included 20 special people in their lives.
What Makes a Good Partnership?
A good partnership often includes the following elements:
- Trust: This is the foundation of any strong partnership. Both parties should feel confident that they can rely on each other.
- Communication: Open and honest dialogue helps partners understand each other's needs and expectations.
- Mutual Respect: Valuing each other's opinions and contributions creates a positive and collaborative environment.
- Common Goals: Working towards shared objectives ensures alignment and a sense of purpose.
- Flexibility: Adaptability helps partners navigate challenges and changes together.
- Support: Being there for each other in both good times and bad fosters a deep sense of connection.
How to Plan a Casual Wedding - Top 5 Items
Planning a casual wedding? Focus on these essentials:
- Venue: Choose a relaxed setting like a backyard, beach, or park that reflects your laid-back vibe.
- Attire: Opt for comfortable and informal outfits that match the casual atmosphere.
- Decor: Keep it simple with minimalistic and DIY decorations that add a personal touch.
- Food and Drink: Consider a buffet, food trucks, or a BBQ to keep things relaxed and enjoyable.
- Entertainment: wireless speaker and have someone in charge of Spotify or another music streaming service.
Venues to Consider in the Mississauga Area.
Here are some lovely wedding venues in Mississauga:
- Glen Erin Inn & Spa: A charming historic venue with beautiful gardens and elegant indoor spaces, perfect for a casual yet romantic wedding.
- Friends home/backyard: create the atmosphere you like, rent a tent if needed for the leather, have it catered or casual food ( food truck )
- Restaurant private room: many restaurants have private spaces for special occasions. The ceremony can be performed there and an after meal if required
As with all weddings, Casual Weddings are romantic and intimate yet are economical and usually don't require a lot of additional planning ahead of time.
