Most recently, I had the honour of officiating a wedding at the Island Lake Conservation Area in Orangeville. It was a small affair attended by the parents of the Bride and Groom and a photographer. Often these smaller weddings, although very intimate, can be quick and robotic, with the minimum being said resulting in the ceremony taking only a few minutes. Not this one!!
The celebration began after a 20 minute walk through the area with the Bride and Groom picking a pretty spot on a bridge. As we started the ceremony, it was quite obvious that all attendees had something to contribute. It was a relaxed atmosphere with friendly “chirps” to decisions as to how to hide the photographer’s bag and where to position the “signing” table so that the photographer could get better pictures.
The fun continued and good times were had by all. The celebration was followed by a luncheon at a lovely restaurant.
Here are just a few other outdoor wedding areas to consider when looking for an intimate family affair in the GTA:- Fantasy Farm - Nestled in the Don Valley, this venue offers a serene and picturesque setting right in the heart of Toronto.
- Parkview Manor - Known for its stylish architecture and exceptional service, this venue provides both indoor and outdoor options.
- Palais Royale - Located on Lake Shore Boulevard, this historic venue offers stunning views of Lake Ontario.
- The Jewel Event Centre - Situated in Woodbridge, this venue is known for its fabulous cuisine and impeccable service.
- Belcroft Estate & Event Centre - This estate offers a romantic country feel with flexible indoor and outdoor facilities.
Here are the 6 things you should consider when planning a Wedding in outdoor areas.
-
Have a backup plan in case of rain. Plan it close to home if possible.
- Choose a spot that has a little privacy, but do expect a few interested “passers-by.”
- Make sure the ceremony site is easily accessible and is a little shady.
- In the case where no park benches are close by, bring a small portable table to sign the Wedding License.
- Bring a Wireless Bluetooth Speaker for background music during the ceremony. Or if you are near water, don’t use the speaker at all and let nature be the soundtrack of your wedding ceremony.
- If the ceremony is short and has minimal guests, then there should be no need for any specific requirements, i.e. permits, reservation fees, or restrictions associated with park weddings or gatherings. Just in case, check with the local authorities to make sure there are no legal requirements. Keep in mind there are definitely no alcoholic beverages allowed in public parks. Instead, bring a cooler with bottled water or pop, especially if it is a hot day
- The City of Mississauga and the Greater Toronto Area have hundreds of parks and green spaces from which you can choose. Many parks have beautiful natural settings, such as gardens, lakes, or forests. This can provide a stunning and unique backdrop for your wedding ceremony and photos.
Outdoor Weddings are peaceful, casual, fun, easy and no fuss yet romantic and intimate. Nature can be the canvas and beautiful backdrop for a wonderful ceremony!
