This past December, I had the honour of conducting a Ceremony for a Couple in Mississauga. The original request was for a Simple Ceremony similar to a Civic Wedding where the Ceremony only lasts about 10 minutes (including the signing of the documents) and requires two witnesses over 18. The Couple suggested the Ceremony would take place in their home. After a Zoom Meeting and a few emails were exchanged, I suggested that since the home was already decorated for Christmas, why not turn the Ceremony into a Celebration? The Celebration would include the addition of a few decorations, close friends and a light meal to commemorate the Special Occasion. The couple loved the idea and added their own vows and special music personal to them throughout the ceremony. The Vows included the couple's own love story and was enjoyed by all.
5 Elements to Include in the Wedding Ceremony for Your Simple Celebration
- Personal Vows: Custom-written vows can make the ceremony deeply personal and meaningful. They don’t have to be long—just heartfelt.
- Close-knit Guest List: By keeping the guest list small, you ensure that only the most important people in your life are present, making the celebration intimate and special.
- Personal Touches: Incorporate elements that reflect your personalities and shared interests. This could be in the form of unique decorations, special readings, or even a themed dress code.
- Meaningful Music: Choose songs that are meaningful to your relationship. It sets the tone for the ceremony and adds an emotional layer to the event.
- A Celebrant You Connect With: Having an officiant who understands your journey and relationship can make the ceremony more authentic and memorable.
3 Places to Consider for a Simple Celebration Wedding Ceremony
While a home is the perfect location for a wedding ceremony, there are many other options to consider.
- Backyard or Garden: A private garden or backyard can be a perfect location for a simple, intimate wedding. It offers a personal touch and the convenience of being close to home.
- Local Park or Beach: Public parks and beaches often provide beautiful, natural, picturesque backdrops for wedding ceremonies.
- Small Chapel or Historic Church: A quaint chapel or a small, historic church can offer a charming and serene setting for your wedding. Their intimate atmospheres are ideal for simple celebrations.
Creating a simple and heartfelt wedding ceremony can be one of the most special and memorable days of your life. If you have any other questions or need more ideas, feel free to ask!
